Hello Forum,

Its a pleasure to finally introduce myself to you all, i have been reading the forums for a few months, learning as much as my old mind can hold on too these days.
My pleasures in life are simple, take care of my tools and enjoy using them! I'm an old man so time is precious and i come to you with a request for help in what to buy to effectively sharpen for my needs.
Reading around the forum threads of similar nature has essentially confused me but i have grasped what kind of information could help you help me in this matter.

Full range of steels i use and will be sharpening: 1075(50-55RC), 56Si7 (58RC), 6150(50-55RC), Sandvik 12c27-Mod (57-59RC), Sandvik 12c27(56-58RC), Boron Steel EN10025-5 (52-54RC), VG-10(60-62RC and 59RC), N695 (58RC), 440C (58RC), "Damascus" 1095/15N20 (58-60RC) and 1060 (48-32RC).

If i am not mistaken they are all easy to sharpen metals? With exception of the 60+Rc VG-10, which is only one blade anyway so no big deal.

Price is not a great factor, don't mind paying + for a slight increase in performance if any is to be had over a similar product.
Ideal but not crucial factors in the stones are : -splash and go (less messy, less complicated, perma soaks are a no-go, my lungs are sensitive to humidity!)
-Fast (no time to waste at my age)
-capable of re-shaping and lowering angle on bevels.
-Minimal and/or simple maintenance.
-Force in use doesn't matter, but would appreciate not having to do greater force than what hands can generate.

What do i need them for? Re-shaping and lowering angles on bevels, as for what i use my knives for, i use them both for wood work and utility work.

What do i already have: Sigma Power 120, which i got for lowering angles on bevels, and an assortment of very coarse to coarse DMT diamond plates and spyderco sharpmaker. The dmt's and SS i use for apexing for utility work and woodwork respectively.

If at any time my logic is flawd please correct and teach me so that i may better myself.

I am familiar and capable of plateau sharpening, burr minimization, shaping both high and low angles and how to apex, but my typical method of sharpening is to distress the edge, shape the bevel until all form of light is gone, often going to a burr in the process, then minimizing it and apexing. Like i said i can plateau sharpen but for some reason i feel i waste less time just going to a very slight burr and minimizing it, if the stones you could recommend minimise burr without me specifically having to do it that would just be bonus as i feel its what would make me lose the least amount of time, at which point i would just check for the white line to disappear not worrying about having created a burr and removing it. Keep in mind i'm old and i do forget sometimes so i feel this is what will work best for my mind.

My idea was to use the sigma 120 to change bevels ( mostly lower ), don't know if i can re-shape them with it or if its even worth it. Then a second stone to clean up the scratches and minimize burr before apexing for utility, from what i read the naniwa 400 is a good candidate, and then a third stone for true push cutting ability and again keeping on the burr minimization theme, but i am at a lose for which one to achieve this.

Is this a realistic and feasible setup? Do i need more than that and what i already have.

Build me a dream setup for my needs :).

I have a gift voucher to this website, so i will be getting my stones from here, so no other stones than the ones found on this : Website

If i forgot a valuable peace of information forgive me.

I thank all help with a grateful heart and would like to thank Cliff for the great work he has done to educate the community.

K.H.
